Afrobeatniks at Earth Day Durango, April 12!

Get ready to dance, chill, and vibe with the Afrobeatniks at the Earth Day Durango celebration in Buckley Park! There will be more than 30 booths packed with food, art, fun stuff to do, info, and so much more. You definitely don’t wanna miss out!

The Procession of the Species Parade is 10:30 -11. The celebration at Buckley Park starts after the Parade, 11 – 3. Afrobeatniks will play from 1-3.

Recycle your gently worn athletic shoes!

Check your closets and garage before April 12. Once again, we are offering a shoe donation/recycling event in collaboration with Durango Running Company.

New or gently worn shoes accepted. Nothing muddy or with holes. Tie the shoes together and bring them to Earth Day Durango!

DO BRING:  Pairs of clean athletic shoes, tied together

DON’T BRING:

  • Single sneakers or mismatched pairs of shoes
  • Wet / moldy shoes
  • Running shoes with holes or tears

They work with two organizations to recycle shoes so please check out the guidelines:

Elementary students: Join the coloring contest!

The DHS Green Team is hosting a coloring contest associated with Earth Day Durango. The team will award prizes to the top-placed artwork. Prizes will be handed out during the Durango Earth Day celebration. You can choose from one of two line drawings.

Parade is going to be awesome this year!

Apply to be in the Procession of the Species. This helps us plan the best order to keep everyone safe. You can walk or ride a bike. We may even have an electric vehicle.

This year, we are hoping even more people show up in fabulous, homemade costumes representing their favorite species. You can get ideas from the Olympia Processions. They’re famous for their parade. Let’s give them a run for their money!

Awards will be given for the best costumes!

Afrobeatniks at Earth Day Durango 2025!

Goats + Solar = A Powerful Partnership!

Join LPEA and their baby goats in the Earth Day Durango Parade on April 12 as they showcase their eco-friendly approach to vegetation management! LPEA is partnering with goats to naturally maintain the land around their solar arrays—helping produce clean energy while caring for the environment. Stop by the LPEA booth at Buckley Park after the Parade to pet the goats and learn more about Community Power programs and how LPEA is working toward a sustainable future.

Procession of the Species Parade – Come as your favorite plant or animal!

For Earth Day 2025, we will celebrate with a Procession of the Species Parade down Main Street on April 12. Come as your favorite plant or animal! Look through your closet and thrift stores to see what you might use, ideally something recycled or reusable.

Need help? Get inspired!

Seed Studio will hold a costume-making workshop on April 5, focusing on aquatic species. (Registration will be required. Fee TBD)
