100+ for the Earth is a new giving circle that supports environmental nonprofits serving SW Colorado. At their inaugural meeting in October, individual $100 donations were multiplied 40 times so they could give 4CORE over $4000! Joining 100+ for the Earth can help us and your other favorite earth-focused nonprofits raise badly needed funds for our mission.

Members commit to $100 donation per quarter for 2026 (plus a small admin fee). Student/youth members only donate $10/qtr. Members can then nominate nonprofits and vote on the finalists. So include us in your year-end giving. Donations go through our fiscal sponsor, the Community Foundation, which is a 501 c 3 charity.

The inspiration

What if you wanted to donate $100 to your favorite environmental nonprofit, but you pulled together 50-100 people to do the same. That would raise $5000-10,000! That’s the idea behind 100+ for the Earth.

DId you know that only about 3% of charitable giving in the US goes to environmental groups? The organizers of 100+ for the Earth want to fix this, boosting support for groups that serve or are based in SW Colorado.

Come to the Green Business Roundtable on September 10 to learn about Earth Law, how an ecocentric perspective is being used to protect rivers, lakes and other ecosystems.

Did you know you can grow goji berries in Durango? I didn’t give mine a drop of water during this dry summer (I didn’t want to encourage them) and yet they keep producing and spreading. My three plants have turned into a goji jungle! The berries are loaded with antioxidants. Fresh, they taste more like a bell pepper (birds don’t seem to like them) so you could use them in salads or stews; dry, they’re good on cereal/granola. You can also steep the berries to make tea. And our dog loves them.

Did you know that everyone pays the same sustainability fee on their Durango utility bill, regardless of how much water they use? The Climate Study Group has a better idea. Let’s make the fee a percentage. The fee would actually go DOWN for many households. This change to the fee structure would incentivize water conservation and raise significant funds for Durango to meet its sustainability goals.

Sign on letter re City of Durango sustainability fee and increase funding for the Sustainability office. Please sign onto the letter (link below) about changing how the City of Durango calculates its sustainability fee on our utility bills. This form includes a detailed explanation of the reason for this request. If you have a relationship with a business or organization, please add your name to the link below and ask them to sign-on as well. The deadline for obtaining signatures is July 31^st. Note: this is not a formal request for signatures, like on a petition, but rather to show City Council that there is significant interest for this request.

Did you know only 3 percent of charitable giving goes to environmental nonprofits? Would you like to be part of a group that pools its money four times a year? Together, we would choose a charity (over the year, three local, one state-wide) to donate to. Just imagine 50 people, each giving $100. That’s $5000 that could go to your favorite local, earth-focused charity. Students can also participate at a much lower level (maybe $10.)
